Bro. Rodney D. Welch, PhD

OVERVIEW
Brother Rodney D. Welch (LM#12314) was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Eta Delta Lambda Chapter in the spring of 2000. His 25-years of continuous service is a testament to his unwavering commitment and dedication to the fraternity. Over the years, Brother Welch has served at all levels of the fraternity, including: Area VI Director in Louisiana, Louisiana District Director, Regional Chairman and International committee member of the Brother’s Keeper National Program.
MANLY DEEDS
Under his leadership, Brother Welch established the Louisiana District of Alpha Phi Alpha Educational Foundation (501c3). He led the Foundation to acquire a $1.4 million property as an investment for youth in the city of New Iberia, Louisiana. Brother Welch also pioneered the mental health component of the Brother's Keeper Program; led disaster recovery efforts after Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Hurricane Ida in Louisiana, and Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas; and established a national partnership with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), formerly known as "Be The Match". Brother Welch's advocacy work for the National Marrow Donor Program also led to the adoption of Louisiana Senate Bill 98, which added bone marrow donation as an option on driver's license applications and renewals.
SCHOLARSHIP
Brother Welch holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Grambling State University and a Master of Business Administration from Jackson State University. He recently earned his Doctorate in Public Administration from National University.
LOVE FOR ALL MANKIND
Leveraging his educational and practical experience in the insurance and financial arena, Brother Welch is the franchise owner and CEO of Brightway Insurance Agency, The Rodney Welch Agency. He gives back to his community by providing impactful financial literacy initiatives. These initiatives empower individuals with the knowledge and resources to secure their financial futures, making a significant impact in their lives. He is passionate about uplifting youth, and helping them realize their dreams. Because of his mentorship and guidance, he is known by many as “Uncle Rodney.”
Brother Welch’s leadership and commitment to his community reached new heights in March 2022, when he made history as the first Black alderman elected to the West Monroe City Council. This groundbreaking achievement was a personal victory and a symbol of progress for the entire community. As an alderman, Brother Welch has worked tirelessly to represent the voices of all constituents, advocating for policies that promote equality, economic development, and a better quality of life for the residents of his hometown of West Monroe, LA.
